A woman with dark curly hair, in a sand top, open linen shirt and linen trousers, smiles as she steps through timber doors into a calm salon with white walls, shutters and boucle chairs.

Come in tired.
Leave glowing.

The Ylang Hour is a small beauty salon in an old island house on Mahé. Lashes, brows, nails and facials, done slowly and done well.

Her day at The Ylang Hour, in seven chapters

  1. Facial, 10:20: Breathe out. Your skin will follow.

Warm towels, a slow cleanse and a mask chosen for your skin, with the shutters open to the garden.

She thinks: why is this so relaxing

  2. Brows, 11:10: Brows that frame you, not change you.

We map, shape and tint to the face you already have, so they look even, soft and still like yours.

    She thinks: she's so careful

  3. Lashes, 12:00: Eyes closed. Lashes on.

Light, natural sets placed one lash at a time. Lie back and let the hour slow down. Drifting off is allowed.

She thinks: might actually fall asleep

  4. Manicure, 13:30: Hands that feel looked after.

Shaping, cuticle care and a glossy finish, with a cup of tea while it sets.

    She thinks: this colour. yes.

  5. Pedicure, 14:20: Then your feet get the best seat.

A warm petal soak, a slow oil massage and fresh polish, in a deep chair by the garden.

She thinks: not getting up. ever.

  6. The after, 15:30: Walk out feeling like you.

Same you, rested and put together, with the afternoon light on your skin. Book an hour, or the whole day.

She thinks: same me. just glowing.

Five ways to spend your hour.

Book one, or put a few together into a slow afternoon. Every treatment starts with a short talk and ends with a cup of tea.

The Facial

Skin that has had a rest.

We start by asking how your skin has been, then work slowly: a warm cleanse, a gentle exfoliation and a mask chosen for you, with a face and shoulder massage while it sets.

Spoolie brushes, a fine brow pencil, a small dish of brow tint and a brass hand mirror on cream linen by a lime-washed wall.

Brows

Shaped to your face.

We map your brows to your own features, then shape and tint them softly. The aim is even, groomed and natural, never a new face.

Curved steel tweezers, a tile of fine lash extensions and a jade stone on a pale stone tray, lit by a warm round lamp.

Lashes

One lash at a time.

Light, natural extensions or a lift, placed with care while you lie back under a warm lamp. Most of the time you just keep your eyes closed and rest.

A relaxed hand with glossy milky nude nails resting on a white towel, beside polish bottles, a cup of tea and a ylang-ylang flower.
